⛪ Sunday Sermon for the SCGL Flock
“When the Phoenix Fails to Rise”
By Revd OldSharedog, Keeper of the Eternal RNS
Beloved brethren of the SCGL parish,
We gather once more in the shadow of the smouldering ashes, staring at the spot where the mighty Phoenix was supposed to rise. Many of you stood ready with binoculars, flasks, and limit orders, waiting for the majestic creature to flap its wings and ascend toward the heavens of the Main Market.
But alas, dear flock…
Not a feather stirred.
Not a spark flickered.
Not even a faint coo of life.
Instead, we were left with the familiar smell of burnt hope and the gentle rustling of shareholders checking their portfolios with one eye closed.
And so we turn to our faithful congregation:
Brother Colenal,
Who marched boldly into the thread declaring, “This time it’s different!”
We honour your courage, even as we gently remind you that you have said this during the last four cycles of ash‑watching.
Capt Crober,
Steadfast navigator of the Good Ship SCGL, charting a course through fog, fantasy, and the occasional iceberg of reality.
Your optimism is admirable, even if your compass appears to be powered by pure belief rather than anything magnetic.
And to the rest of the parish — the lurkers, the doubters, the spreadsheet prophets — hear this message:
**The Phoenix may not have risen…
…but neither have we stopped watching the ashes.**
For in this parish, hope is not a strategy —
it is a tradition.
Let us therefore go forth into the week with renewed patience, fortified humour, and the unshakeable knowledge that if the Phoenix ever does rise, half of us won’t believe it and the other half will insist they predicted it all along.
Amen, and may your RNS be ever timely.
