RE: Jamaica colibri 1st well farm in28 Mar 2023 17:51
So, I am familiar with the background of some of the senior execs in UOG and liked the idea of buying into a growing organisation (not friends or even acquaintances!!). If you study the O&G industry, shares in the big boys haven't risen in value much over the past 10-15 years. EG Total shares peaked some years ago (I think around 15) at 60 Euros even 10 years ago they were similar to quoted price today, Shell and BP are similar. The great thing about them, however, is the dividend they pay. Runs at between 5-7%. So I was looking at a small cap oil company with potential to grow to grow a small investment.
Bought some stock and sat back for the ride.
As for Jamaica. It would be a game changer if (1) a White night came on the scene and UOG farmed out with a carry through exploration and (2) The well was successful. But I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to buy on the back of an expectation that Jamaica will succeed, remember it has a GCOS of around 16-19%. In my first incarnation, with a major, they wouldn't look at an exploration play with anything less than 12% AND it had to be in a proven petroleum system.
If you look at Namibia, Total and Shell took on the risk of drilling in circa 3,000 Mtrs with no proven petroleum system in the Country, but an active system in the region (i.e SA and Angola) although they were (I believe) going after the Albian. They took the risk because the potential STOOIP was huge. The whispers are that between the two they may have 20 Bbbls. Jamaica will not attract the Super Majors, but middle sized Indies would bite off UOG's hand if a significant (and I mean 200-300 Mbbl) discovery was made. This would prove the Petroleum System and make further finds more likely. I.E. The GCOS for other prospects would be raised.
