@harrycarter You are an idiot. And your comment regarding renewables confirms it.
"Renewable energy is experiencing unprecedented global growth, with
clean sources generating over 40% of the world's electricity in 2024. Driven by a surge in solar, which doubled in capacity over the last three years, renewables are set to overtake coal as the leading source of electricity by 2025/2026.
Key Trends in Global Renewable Growth
Record Solar & Wind Growth: Solar PV remains the fastest-growing source, accounting for over 80% of new capacity, with wind also expanding rapidly. Together, they reached over 13% of global generation in 2023.
Dominance in Expansion: In 2024, renewables accounted for over 92% of all new power capacity additions.
Key Players: China drives the majority of growth, contributing 55% of global solar expansion, followed by the US and the EU.
Future Projections: Renewables are expected to meet over 90% of global electricity demand growth between 2025 and 2030. By 2030, nearly 45% of global electricity is expected to be generated from renewable sources.
Drivers and Challenges
Drivers: The primary drivers are falling technology costs (especially for solar and storage) and supportive policies.
Challenges: Key challenges include integrating variable renewable energy into grid systems, supply chain vulnerabilities, and financing for developing nations."
Renewables ARE here to stay. There is a reason there are now solar farms popping up next to factories even here in north east Scotland where I stay. There are plans progressing to expand the harbour in the small town that I live in to support offshore wind farm vessels.
Apart from the initial CapEx(which is not high), OpEx is low for solar(panels last 20 years with minimal maintenance) and not that high for wind.
And yes I agree, the BoD are clowns IF(key word) they are thinking about selling the renewables arm. They have built a business that is scalable and has virtually endless potential for growth and stable income, till we are all dead and gone. And putting the money in to energy production of an by gone era for some short term gains, that to me is mind boggling.
