This is the best possible news for BT right now. Talk Talk may bleat about giving BT pricing freedom for a decade but with BT free to invest with a more comfortable/realistic view on returns, things should really get going both with the share price and the fibre roll out. Perhaps Talk Talk et al would like to share in the investment, maybe then they'd get more favourable pricing ?
Has it actually occurred to anyone that the Openreach story might have been dropped deliberately ? The BT share price is being manipulated and has been for quite some time, no question about it. The Italian accounting scandal actually cost BT £500Mn yet we saw £2Bn wiped off the share price because of it. Now, a 'story' suggesting Openreach is up for sale at £20Bn, twice the current market cap of the whole BT Group, has entered the public domain. Looks like the market has stood up and listened. Job done I'd say.
BT is not selling Global Services, it's rationalising the business. Take the example of BT France, BT is looking to retain a strong presence in France, serving multinational businesses and organizations. This includes access points to its global network and a cyber security operations centre. This will be replicated across other regions. Look at the figures, GS showed the best performance across all divisions. It will continue to provide service to multi national companies globally.
The pension scheme has been sorted. It went from FPP to average pay in 2009 and it had been closed to new entrants for a few years before that (2001?). Now of course it's closed, and is treated for those that remain in it as if they had left the company, no more payments in, just following fluctuations in CPI. Al BT employees are now on a standard investment pot pension.
There used to be a lot of Consultants in BT. They were always viewed, as a man who knew 100 different ways of making love. Unfortunately he doesn't know any women.
I find it interesting that people are concentrating on the revenue loss from Sport, and not looking at how the world has changed so quickly, in ways that play to BT’s strengths. Currently, with workers staying at home, the BT network has proved more than able to cope. In the last month the Company has seen a massive increase in orders for home working solutions, and additional pipes. Whenever this horror show comes to an end, I think (hope) people will act and work differently, less travel, more remote meetings because they’ve seen the benefits it affords now it’s been forced on them. Just my opinion of course.
The network is self maintaining and in the main self healing. There would have to be an absolute disaster for manpower to be thrown at the problem. Plus, whilst a number of subscribers have an 'all you can eat' contract a significant number have data caps which incur charges when breached. That to me is a revenue increase.
The service isn't stretched. During a 'normal day' and that includes business activity as well as domestic the broadband traffic is one quarter of that between 20:-00 - 21:00, when people are streaming, upgrading and gaming. The BT BB network can more than cope.
This is predominantly driven by agencies in America, but it's not something that's taken Europe or the UK by surprise. Huawei's equipment in the UK is monitored by a special division set up by the Government to check for flaws in Huawei technology.
Could they be about to spend a whole boatload of money on an infrastructure, which will be redundant before it's even complete ? http://www.threemediacentre.co.uk/news/2018/5g-wireless-home-broadband-predicted-to-double-internet-speeds-for-uk-households.aspx
Really ? Changing brand identity is a hugely costly business even if you already own the brand you're changing to. Although not in the top 100 globally, BT ranks as the 7th most valuable brand in the UK. This will never happen.
