The first city new gTLD launched yesterday and .Berlin did over 31,000 registrations. .Berlin first day total was 31,956 making it immediately the 2nd most popular new gTLD only to .Guru which has around 44,500 registrations. By contrast .Guru only did 9,500 registrations on its first day of general availability. According to InterNetX a German based registrar, 20,000 registration were done in the 1st hour of availability. .Berlin, as we have told you was one of the groups that really pushed ICANN to open up the domain name space which has became the new gTLD program. A .Berlin domain registration retail cost is around $60 a year depending on the registrar you use, assuming a $50 wholesale cost the registry .Berlin registry took in over $1.5 million in its first day, which is not bad for the $185K investment

I think the Berlin registrations will have a major daily impact on the SP. Not withstanding all the other global awareness.

I Agree entirely Joco, there is a definite link between the numbers .berlin got and to the potential of .London. If for example .berlin had bombed then it would have been harder to extrapolate potential figures for .LONDON. This is just another positive indicator. atb

Just read the Chinese news, and with M&M having .SHOPPING (in Chinese!) it bodes well. The Chinese people are so internet savvy and with the large population, this must be a great source of revenue. The diversity of domains M&M has is very encouraging!

Yes Bonum, I agree my estimate is very conservative in the first year. I didn't really take into account the global and ex-pat demand...however it will be huge. atb

Just to clarify your comments Joco; are you planning to get back in here in after April 5th? If so I guess it would be in your interests for the sp to be low? Are any of your comments influenced by this 16 day wait?

In my view the price rise today is based purely on the tangible figures created by the massive number of registrations for .BERLIN 32000+ at 50 Euros in 24 hours! Do the Math! I personally think .LONDON will hit 250,000+ registrations in the first year.
