I fail to see for example how; "hmv.music" or "sony.music" are longer and less specific than "hmvmusic.co.uk" or "sonymusic.co.uk"... or rhinos.rugby is less specific and longer than" rhinosrugby.co.uk" or "texas.rodeo" less specific and longer than "texasrodeo.com ???? The shortening of the whole domain name HELPS the respective business in their marketing.

I think this recurring (passive) income that Bonum mentions is valuable. The fixed costs have already been accounted for. and the operating costs are relatively low. Compare it to satellite/cable TV, once your dish and box are installed then it's just a flick of a switch, to create an ongoing revenue stream.

The generic names have global reach like ".wedding", ".app", ".horse", ".rugby", ".soccer", ".basketball" ".blog", etc.etc........ Then we have the geographic city domains e.g. ".Miami", ".London", ".Bayern", ".NRW", and more ....... I'm sure you would agree that for example "wigan.rugby" has more appeal than "wigan.co.uk" and has a certain clarity, "lufc.soccer" more appeal than "lufc.co.uk" and so on.....clarity and specificity increase the value to a business......good luck with all your investments! :)
