'Researchers at Karolinska Institute in Sweden have made a breakthrough in the arms race that is cancer immunotherapy. The team has blocked a protein that silences an important tumor-suppressing protein, allowing the latter to get back to work.

The focus of the study is the protein p53, which is often colloquially called the “guardian of the genome.” This protein keeps watch during cell division and, if it detects DNA damage, it pauses the process and either repairs it or kills the faulty cell if it’s too far gone. That prevents the cell from turning cancerous – or at least, that’s the aim. Mutations or deficiencies in the gene that encodes for p53 are associated with a huge range of cancer types.'

Your post prompted me to do some digging as I also thought the Portuguese GOV owned 15% of LS. That 15% was bought in 2017 [see RNS below].

Provided that Ascendant make the required further payments to MAFL [$3.5m] and spend the required minimum of $9m in exploration and feasibility costs then they will increase ownership of the project to 80% leaving MAFL with 20%. In the event that the mine is built then 'Ascendant will fund all development and future construction costs and recoup Crestgate's share of investment through cash flow until repaid.' [MAFL own 100% of Crestgate].

It is not a mistake if you can buy the business for £7b, sell the Freeholds for £6b and then take out loans to pay yourself a £4b dividend. And, you put Topco offshore, so there is no tax on receipt of the dividends. Ideally, Topco lends the bottom company the money to pay the dividends such that annual interest payments to Topco neutralise any UK tax liabilities.
