Petrol & Diesel I think will be fazed out by economics. As demand falls, petrol stations might become uneconomic and fall one by one.

I think if you are lucky enough to afford it, have the right type of house, I can imagine a situation where you might well have solar panels, a big battery, solar glass, solar paving slabs, a mini wind turbine (not the blades you see now) and only ever take power from the grid in the early hours to top up your batteries. Maybe solar roof tiles or even paint.

Lots of homes will become mini power stations. It might take time to get there but with the advances in solar efficiency and technology, I don't think some of these will be that far off.

I read the 2023 Critical Minerals strategy document which gives a list of all ones considered critical.

There is a subset of 5 items which were the priority at that stage, pre china ban to US and EU. Believe last delivery was Feb and Gmet CEO confirmed still banned now.

Tungsten is key for the military as stated but also for items where weight reduction is important but so is strength. Aircraft, spacecraft, EVs. Also key to new reactors due to very high melting temperature.

The US could fund GMET rather than swooping in here. I'm hopeful for the UK government as the UK doesn't have a huge number of critical metals

The UK doesn't have many critical metals so presumably TW in with a decent chance.

I am a bit surprised by the comments, I thought the soon to be announced strategy would be dominating the posts. TW seems vaguely similar to Gmet, both have a resource which a grant and support would be transformational.

Given the continued export ban of Tungsten by the Chinese (confirmed recently by the CEO of GMET) and no deliveries to the US or EU since Feb, it feels like the UK govt really needs to be on the war footing that Mr Starmer said we were on. Get that chequebook out.
