Simple answer is yes, PETROS will collaborate with PETRONAS to supervise oil and gas (O&G) trading in the state, this will include the development of all upstream and downstream activities.

In my opinion UPL, having very close links with the Sarawak government, will be awarded the PSC for block SK334, rather than to an International player like Shell as they are committed to maximising the participation of indigenous companies in Sarawak involved in the project, another positive for the government both in terms of kudos and also the taxes they will collect. Shell are already very much “in bed” with PETRONAS for activities in the region therefore the fiercely independent Sarawak Government want more control over who drills in their state.

Sarawak has issued an ultimatum to Petronas to finalise an agreement granting the state complete rights to supervise the trading of oil and gas extracted from the state by Oct 1.

Certainly it appears that all parties are working together to achieve the required outcome.

Sarawak Government need finance for their ambitious plans with ongoing costs and this no doubt will be at the forefront of their negotiations. Petronas have had it their way for too long bleeding the natural resources from Sarawak and paying them a pittance for the privilege.

Indeed Stocky and to pay for it all they need all the revenues from the O & G that Petronas are currently taking. A fiercely independent nation with big plans for the future, they are going to do their utmost to get what they want to achieve their ambitions
