Magellan Re-Evaluation:HORSE HILL22 Jul 2018 13:29
In Essence:
NEW INTERVIEW with "Chris Pullan-Consultant with Magellan Petroleum." [Experienced UK Geo] dated 14 June 2018 by ShareTalk and written by Jane Whaley with further reading from Geo ExPro Archives.
1) "-but mostly did look hard enough at the results. No one had really tried to see the bigger picture to the overall basin, partly due to the fragmentation of the data base." - The background to the Weald.
2)"Magellan 1st got into the Weald Basin during the 9th UK Onshore Round back in 2000. Set about preparing a Regional perspective including Re-Processing vintage seismic, the plays just Jumped Out At Us."
3)"Source of gas in the area...."
4)"Question as to whether Upper Jurassic Kimmerigian Clays could be a SOURCE were answered by geochem analysis of oil from a test of Kimm. Limestone BALCOME 1 well, originally drilled by Conoco."
"The Unconventional industry in the US had breathed new life into UK Onshore. We realised the Kimm. Clay might not just be SOURCING the Overlying PORTLAND Sandstone but also, a New Unexplored Play: The INTERBEDDED & STACKED Kimm limestones. Needed to map out the MATURE Kimm Clays as well as the Interbedded limestones, known as Micrites."
**"HORSE HILL REARS UP"
1) "Seismic re-processing suggested well was off-structure on the downthrown side of the major bounding fault.
2)"By 2013, Magellan was ready to drill a new well on the upthrown side side of the fault. The prospect was farmed out to Angus Energy Ltd, who later created Horse Hill Dev Ltd, with multiple consortium partners in order to fund the exploration drilling, and who became the operator."
3) "Earlier this year, VERY SUCCESSFUL FLOW TESTING was carried out on these horizons & LIGHT SWEET OIL has produced from BOTH RESERVOIRS AT HIGH RATES. This is particularly Exciting as it indicates the Kimmeridge micrites are NATURALLY FRACTURED."
"Along with the new vintrinite reflectance data, the test results have RE-DEFINED the limit of MATURITY of the KIMMERIDGE SOURCE, suggesting it is Mature OVER A GREATER AREA than previously EXPECTED, possibly Up To The NORTHERN Bounding Fault, thus considerably EXPANDING the overall potential of the Basin."
"**A LARGE RESOURCE"
-"There was additional interest when the results of the technical studies of the well were carried out by NUTECH & SCHLUMBERGER were released, which suggested large estimates of OIL-IN-PLACE. There is a Very Large Potential Resource here but it is far too soon to make any realistic estimate of its size and how much can be recovered, Chris says....We also need to test long term and also look at OTHER Horizons, before we can have a reliable idea of the Size of the Recoverable Reserves."
"The potential of the KIMMERIDGE is Particularly EXCITING, we dont have any good core from the section, as previously we just drilled thru to take a look at the deeper horizons. More...geochem...analyse... The CENTRE of the Basin is UNDERExplored and we have yet to under
