RE: "Telfer, Western Australia"-PortaGeo11 Jul 2019 12:25
My Comment:
1) If you look at Newcrest*s 31 Dec 2016 figures, it shows 355MT at 0.82g/t Au & 0.14% Cu.
It did NOT hit yet at this stage 1 BILLION tonnes of ore. However, it is norm that for a Tier 1 resource, it starts at 1 Billion tonnes of ore at 1% Cu Copper. Not sure what the gold equivalent has to be. However, in further developments, it is known that in the end Newcrest*s Telfer came to some 32 million ounces of gold. So, majors look for large tonnages at a certain cut-off grade. The norm for gold is 1g/t but in recent times, it is commonly known that grades have fallen and often times, the grade is lower in practice both for gold and copper.
For Rio*s Winu which is further up the structural corridor to Havieron [GGP] at Paterson, W.Australia the story is slightly different. Rio, as a major is ONLY interested in Tier 1.
In the case of Havieron, the ore will be trucked to Telfer. So, slightly different dynamics. This was reported and first mentioned by DL as he said trucking is cheaper than rail. I believe this was mentioned in the various articles. I saw it last night but did not post it.
As for the Porter Geo link, it only shows Main Dome & West Dome. I have posted before a later link that shows that total tonnage involved more discoveries. So, Blackhills [GGP] may potentially be ONLY the 1st more surface expression.
So, the nearby potential anomalies NEAR or NEXT to Havieron & Blackhills will be of interest.
At the end of the day, it appears that it could turn out to be DISTRICT scale at GGP*s Paterson licence. Not sure how Artemis*s licence will also play out as their geophysical shows there is a continuity of the anomaly.
Salpetite is an Exploration Geologist on Hotcopper and he has commented on Havieron and Artemis licences. However, to work it all out will require a ECONOMIC GEOLOGIST as they have to put through all the figures to work out the economics of the project.
MY EARLIER POST - Telfer 1972
Thanks for the correct link.
I t was interesting that the PICTURE shown by the Geo describes it as MATCHSTICK [please check and look]. The Panorama pic shows that the nuggets are far bigger. Others can comment. I remember Gervaise Heddle*s own Twitter picture showed a quart with a bit of nugget hanging on it and a MATCHSTICK shown besides it. I gather that is the Telfer style of illustration?
GRADES
One will notice that in many of the MRE*s a lot of holes are drilled and the COMPOSITE is then worked out.
There is commentary that in terms of Havieron, people did expect the results of Hole 5 to be replicated in Hole 6-9. I was on this board at the time and I remember the chatter. It was also noted in an article but I do not think I can get it to show as its too difficult trawling through so much material now. Suffice to say, it is historical now.
It is norm to benchmark the results with the nearby mine ie Telfer. For this reason, Sprotts and Newcrest did read the results at HAVIERON
