Why is this finally rising, seemingly week after week it's edging up?

I think SMT will go much higher yet. ONLY reaching its 2021 high would actually be disappointing.

You bought at the top 5 years ago. And now that you're in a modest profit finally, you want to sell?

I too bought 5 years ago near the top, but I continuing buying every since every month, and now my average is 900. So I'm over 60%+ up now. Some of my other index funds (LifeStrategy100, Russell 1000 Growth) did better than SMT over that timeframe. But alas; I'll keep buying as SMT is basically a concentrated bet on the technological singularity.

Investing in SMT is for the long-term.

It did raise eyebrows to be issuing shares again already, so soon. But it's hard to know really whether it's the right or wrong thing to do. Maybe in a year's time we will know.

From what I can see SMT invested a total of about £150million into SpaceX across numerous rounds. So they only need to exit 15% to mitigate risk, and then they can just let it run like they did with Tesla.

SpaceX's best days are probably still ahead of it. Once they have finished Starship, there will be a lot of military and private contracts that will be worth billions. And then SpaceX might think of their own "Starlink esque" commercial project to use Starship for, on top of that.

I don't think it's too high at all; I think the recent trend is exactly what SMT has been waiting for. A number of investments built over many years by the fund are finally coming good.

We're finally back at the levels SMT last saw in the stock market mania of the 2020s and 2021s before interest rates shot up. The fact that we are now back at those levels despite still living in a high-rate environment, is absolutely astonishing really.

Is it just the Iran peace deal or is it a rerate because the portfolio has 19% of SpaceX?

I sold out of this fund this week as it's a load of junk. It plummeted a year after I bought it, and it's done nothing ever since.

The move to an OEIC was completely pointless and defeats the purpose of the original investment. The ongoing charges were too high in the OEIC.

Yeah, selling pre IPO would be madness. The best time to sell is during the IPO when the mania is at its peak. Or wait another 5 years.

I suspect SMT along with other BG funds, will take some profits during the IPO.

TRIG is just going to counteract the two and remain stagnant

This means SpaceX IPO valuation surely goes up quite substantially...

A lot of BG funds own SpaceX. MNTN holds it, EWI holds it - SMT is actually one of the smaller holding funds of BG.

It's all good though. SMT should do well out of SpaceX this year.

That's not gonna happen because it means InfraRed would lose control and the management fees which for them would defeat the whole purpose

This Bhide guy sounds a bit wet to be quite honest. But then, he is an academic. He doesn't seem to realise how the corporate world works. It isn't always about WHAT you know (academically) it is more about WHO you know. And not happy with how things played out for him, now he is taking it to the FCA. jfc...

But that's what SMT is for.

Don't worry - speculative assets will be back in fashion sooner than many people currently think. It's the way.

Big shake up indeed - there appears to be some unrest on the board. A halving of any trust's share price tends to do that.

In 5 or 10 years new investors may be looking back at this current price and discount dreaming wistfully about buying at this time.
