Retailers in the UK enjoyed a boost in footfall on Boxing Day, with analysis from MRI Software showing shopper footfall increased 4.4 per cent year-on-year.

The analysts said the retail sector may end the year on a “positive note” after the Boxing Day bounce.

Hewson said: “A late surge in revellers hitting the high street on Boxing Day might have boosted footfall, but the real proof will be found in retailers’ Christmas earnings updates.”

Historically, the UK travel industry has seen two distinct booking peaks: Boxing Day through to the end of March, when up to 60% of annual bookings occur, and a summer surge.

However, 2026 looks set to break this pattern, with strong sales sustained throughout the year as consumers embrace more frequent travel.

On the other hand, Visa reports that electronics was the strongest performing retail segment this Xmas.

Sensormatic reports that Curry's may have launched their Boxing Day sales earlier this year. Is that usual? Or a tactical response to lower footfall?

Looks extremelly oversold now. Price at support. Added some at the open.

Was wondering if perhaps they had a very poor Halloween which, even with a good Xmas trading wouldn't be enough to offset the poor pefomance in October.

Anyway, been to a store in London N22 this lunchtime and it appears busy. People were buying, not just looking.

Been to the closest store next to me (London EN4) around lunchtime. Was as busy as last Xmas. Not crazy busy, but a short queue of people waiting to pay, and several other shoppers looking around. Far from an empty store. Christmas boxes at 50% off, and Xmas cards 3 for 2 promo. Can't remember if they did this last year though. Is management expecting a margin shrink as opposed to volume compression?

To me the 27% price drop yesterday was an over-reaction to an unscheduled / surprise trading update that should have come 3rd week of Jan instead.

Intend to add a tad lower than the Friday closing price.

A positive is that I believe the Naked Trader doesn't hold any CARD shares this time. He and his followers are partially responsible for the two last sell-offs / pullbacks.

More institutions reducing short positions?

With all the weak hands selling, would be nice if share price could take off now.
