RE: Transmission line installation22 Apr 2021 14:38
Well thats probably the first time you've attempted to answer a question so I guess that's progress however you failed to give an alternative to connecting to the grid to produce revenue, so I guess you do actually agree with the strategy but are just not happy with the amount of energy and the time it's taken which is a different thing to what you were saying the other day.
Fwiw I think once the transmission line is in place scaling up will be easy, everything is modular so it's just a case of purchasing additional units and hooking them up or hooking up solar panels. The hard bit was getting to that point.
On my second question you've at least tried to answer it but haven't really give any specifics other than the usual 'it's Botswana it takes longer' we'll we don't really know how long it takes to begin with but from what I've seen and read I think the timescale is doable even in Botswana. As I said the other day all the delay has mostly been government related and that's pretty much the same in any country nothing unique to Botwana. I read that getting a new power line connection installed typically takes around 10 years from initial idea inception to full completion including all the red tape, regulatory and environmental hurdles (in first world countries) so by that measure TG hasn't done too badly.
Private contractors will have clauses that set out expectations of time to completion and possibly penalties for overruns drawn into their contract awards. The only possible hurdle I'll concede is the money running out before we get the money from our backer but once they begin work the prospect of the funder dragging their heel further, risking delaying the connection seems very remote to me. Most times once a project begins and starts to gather momentum it has a snowball effect. The closer the end goal gets (when people can actually see dollar revenues close) the more it tends to focus attentions! Indeed I actually expect the financing to be announced before work on the line begins, ie. this quarter.
