Bloomers.
Yes and as they said the increase in the population is decreasing production.
The governments do not want to make things we are in a service economy! we just pass things around to each other, like passing the parcel . The Tories and Labour both wanted this, it makes their lives easier in theory, a service economy dictated to from Brussels was the lazy way for politicians and civil servants.
But they cannot lift production, remembering that 45% of GDP just comes from government spending taking our tax and the borrowed all the money, that we have then to pay the interest on, to keep things moving.
10% of that 45% GDP comes from some fantasy maths, which takes into account the fictitious rents that those in their own homes would pay if their homes were rented !!
So they cannot grow productivity, but they purposely grow the population, GDP falls our wealth falls and our living standards fall. As you point out importing from China is a foolish errand , which could not continue for ever, but they only wanted it to continue whilst they were alive and kicking, they care nothing for the future.
But they like to mentijon the younger generations when it suits their agenda, I think we can safely assume that the likes of Starmer's, Blair's,Sunak's, Cameron's, Johnson's and Cos children will be ok in the future.
An interest example to compare Spain went from being the richest nation in Europe to one of the poorest because their wealth came just from the Gold etc that it took from the Americas they never made anything, when the gold went so did they into poverty. We are following suit.
