Yes Thatcher manipulated the youth unemployment as did Labour, but Blair did away with the problem by extending the school years.
Now people are adults at 18yrs and so keeping thousands more in higher education to 18ys and their mid 20s has all but done away with the youth unemployment problem. Youth unemployment was a major political issue, not now.
My son on turning 40yrs of age ,after higher education and university, said that he had been working for 15 yrs ! I pointed out that at his age I had been working 25yrs.

Lecturers and Universities , look at the toy, courses being pushed, vice Chancellors at third rate universities on £300/400k salaries. Offering courses that offer no real job prospects, And of course we have never had so many universities, to house the lecturers and students every town now appears to have one.
On Scientist, not all scientists are equal, as climate change and the covid pandemic as highlighted . Get a degree in geography get a job with the Environmental Agency and your job description could be a scientist .
Scientist like the term Engineer can mean different things to different people.
