What's in a name?27 Jun 2020 10:52
When we move abroad, which is looking more and more likely, we may well do the typical British thing and give our new home a name. I suggested 'Greatland' to the other half. She replied with "No, no..how about this? She drew a line in the air as if reading the sign in her mind and announced with wide-eyes and wonderment, "Greatland Gold". Now I don't mind revering the name of the company to some extent and after all the share is helping to buy the place, but I thought that was a little too much of an advertisement to Carlos and his gang that rich pickings may be contained therein. I will push for 'Greatland' only.
But it got me thinking more. How well would this company have done if it had been named 'Billabong Bling'? I see it elsewhere. If 'Metal Tiger' had been named 'Metal Squirrel' where would it find a market?
Even the CEO's name, Gervais Heddle, is cool. Barry Uberschmitt wouldn't have carried half as much impact. Believe me, this company is going places and it's all in the name. :)
