Why thank you Dodge. After that episode people kept bringing me mushrooms to see whether they were edible or not. I'm beginning to think there was an ulterior motive.

(Actually, there were a number of types that I was fairly certain were edible but didn't dare try them. Can you imagine? The local hospital, already overstretched dealing with covid cases, receives this idiot who, not only ate some weird mushrooms but also a poisonous onion the week before). I think Brexit would have started earlier for me.)

Talking of onions too panama. I found some wild ones growing in 'the field' down in Portugal. I cleaned the dirt off one of the bulbs, peeled off the outer layer and chomped down the rest raw with a smug look on my face, content in the knowledge that I had shown my fellow inmates how I, at least, would know how to survive under any extreme conditions. Why, Ray Mears himself would be coming to me for advice!

A week later the proprietor told a local farmer about my discovery and he laughed and said they were poisonous. EVERYONE knew that locally.

Talking of the price of gold, some readers may remember our attempts to remove the tooth part of two gold capped teeth recently. Well, the immersion in coca cola did nothing except stain the teeth. So, unperturbed we sent the entirely intact teeth off to an online scrap gold dealer for valuation. £81 for around 3 gms of gold which turned out to be 15ct ! Very nice. We closed the deal and were warmed by the knowledge that Granny turned out to be useful after all.
