Proposed Placing Norseman Gold Plc ("Norseman" or "Company") has today requested the halt of trading of its shares on ASX until an announcement is made to the market with respect to the completion of a capital raising. The Company is undertaking a private placing of approximately A$20 million, including the conversion of A$8m of existing debt into equity, through the issue of approximately 500 million fully-paid ordinary shares to institutional investors ("the Placing"). The Placing is being managed by Moelis Australia Advisory Pty Ltd and Ocean Equities Limited acting as Joint Bookrunners and Joint Lead Managers. The Company's major shareholder, Tulla Group, has agreed to underwrite the total issue for cash of A$12m and conversion of existing debt of A$8m. The funds raised from the Placing will be used to fund the company's working capital requirements including the reduction of existing creditors. The Placing, to be processed in two tranches, is expected to be completed on Thursday 19 July 2012. The first tranche of approximately A$3m, involving approximately 74 million new shares, is not conditional upon shareholder approval, with new shares expected to commence trading on 26 July 2012. The second tranche of approximately A$17 million, involving approximately 426 million new shares, will require receipt of shareholder approval at a general meeting to be held on or around 23 August 2012. WH Ireland retained its "buy" rating for William Sinclair (SNCL) with a 200p target price. The broker said that the horticultural company plans to triple production of its SuperFyba peat substitute by investing 1.5 million pounds in new machinery. WH Ireland noted high demand for the product and expects the expansion to be completed by November 2012. On the broker's forecasts, the shares trade on a prospective multiple of 10.7 times for the financial year ending September 2013 and offer a dividend yield of 4.7%

Shore Capital maintained its "buy" recommendation for London and Stamford Property (LSP), noting that the real estate company has available funds of 900 million pounds, offering significant scope for acquisitions. The broker expects the group to focus on residential properties in London with the possible long-term goal of creating a specialist real estate investment trust. Shore added that the company has already made some attractive purchases, such as the Marlow office building yielding 9% and the Leatherhead asset offering 11%

Panmure Gordon kept its "sell" stance for SThree (STHR) with a target price of 158p. The recruitment agency reported adjusted first half pre-tax profits of 9.3 million pounds, falling short of the broker's forecast of 10.2 million pounds. Panmure noted that the firm's performance is usually weighted towards the second half and raised concerns over a weakening of the macro environment leading to reduced placements and fees

Canaccord Genuity reiterated its "buy" recommendation for Dialight (DIA) with a 1,200p target price. The LED lighting company will report first half results on 23rd July and the broker expects it to have achieved revenues of 60.8 million pounds, with an operating profit of 7.3 million pounds. Canaccord noted that the company's lights are up to 70% more efficient than traditional lighting and expects cell tower operators to accelerate their replacement of conventional strobes. The broker also pointed out that Dialight is the only Federal Aviaiton Administration (FAA) approved supplier to this market

Tempus is equally downbeat on exhibitions organiser ITE which focuses mainly on emerging markets. Exhibition earnings will always be “lumpy”, says Tempus, because some of the big shows are biennial. At 11 times earnings, the column says hold.

In the Times spread betting firm IG Group gets credit for its cash generation and consequent dividends, but the problem with investing in spread betters is that there is no forward visibility. They make money when there is lots happening in the market, and while IG published strong full-year results yesterday, it’s very uncertain whether that kind of success can be repeated. Tempus thinks at 12 times this year’s earnings, IG is a hold.

In the Telegraph, Questor is still a fan of Shell. The column believes management have held their nerve by walking away from a bid for Cove Energy which has attractive natural gas assets in East Africa - the next frontier for gas producers. Questor suspects the company has a “plan B” to gain access to the area and has avoided over-paying. The shares yield 4.8% and with oil likely to remain over $90 a barrel for the foreseeable future, Shell is a buy.

As a result, total production for the year will be similar to that achieved in 2011. We are confident that we will achieve our full year production target of 41 million ounces of silver, including silverstream, this year. We are committed to progressing the group's exploration projects and have intensified our drilling programme. We have also continued the construction of ramps at San Julian, Orisyvo and Centauro Deep. Furthermore, gold reserves were increased at Noche Buena and additional analysis will be conducted to evaluate a possible expansion. The construction of the dynamic leaching plant at Herradura and the project to expand milling capacity at Fresnillo progressed well. All of this represents a further step forward and consolidates Fresnillo's position as a significant gold producer in its own right. We will continue focusing our efforts towards stabilising production at our Fresnillo mine, delivering growth through new operations and discovering new deposits of precious metals. Combined, these actions will enable us to continue to deliver on ourshort and long term goals."

Profit taking was in evidence after industrial fabric maker Low and Bonar's interim results were merely in line with expectations. Low & Bonar's shares have been on a good run since the end of May when the company said first half sales and profits would be comfortably ahead of last year. The company delivered on that promise but the market was evidently hoping for something a bit more spectacular as the shares had fallen 5.5p to 57.5p by the end of the lunch time session, and not even a 14% hike in the interim dividend from 7p to 8p could prevent the fall. Revenue in the six months to the end of May rose to £183.9m from £182.6m (or £176.9m on a constant currency basis) in the corresponding period 12 months earlier. Profit before tax, amortisation and one-off items jumped to £9.6m from £7.9m the year before, but statutory profit before tax tumbled to £6.3m from £11.2m, as this time round the group had exceptional debits of £3.3m against exceptional credits last year of £3.3m.
