Earlier this month point posted this Educational Webinar called “The First principles of radiopharmaceuticals” on their site. Being a scientific buffoon I found it really useful and interesting, and so am posting should others also want to improve their knowledge.

For me it started to get more interesting about 19.40, then more so around 38.30, and even more so at around 40.15 when the Point CMO said

You don’t do all these things for nothing and if, as a business, you’re not shouting about what your doing, I can only assume you either have confidence that you don’t need to, or are under NDA.

The thing that puzzles me about M19 is that up until the middle of this year they, and their sales staff, were all over social media plugging their RSPT. But they have been deathly silent since.

You’d think they were a dead duck. But their LinkedIn employee count hasn’t fallen, they appointed an FD, they’ve progressed Saturn Pass (which powers Agile, which itself appears on the cusp of becoming an approved test provider and which met Bethell in May), and were named as a potential recipient of awards under the National Microbiology Framework.). So not a dead duck.

Strangely I find their silence encouraging. For me, something is clearly happening at M19 and I’m betting it involves AffiDx. At least I hope so!

Not sure I believe that all 81 LFT applications failed to provide the info necessary for a 20 day turnaround. Either govt weren’t clear at the outset or have moved the goalposts…

I guess this explains the lack of CTDA movement, at least from an HMG perspective.

Can’t help thinking this was just a way for govt to ensure only PD approved tests remained on the U.K. market.

For anyone interested, the Lords International Relations and defence committee published a lengthy report in Sept about vulnerabilities in relation to our trade with China, and at pages 77-78 expressed concern about reliance on China for LFTs. It asked the govt to reply on that specific point.

For some reason I can’t seem to copy and paste the answer, but to paraphrase it basically says “we used Chinese stuff because it met all our requirements, but since then we’ve worked with U.K. diagnostics companies to build domestic capability and capacity that could be turned on if needed”.

Seems to me that now is when this is needed!

I see our vaccines minister (ever seen her on TV?) “answer” a number of MP questions today about the LFT supply shortage, by saying she hasn’t got time to answer them! Seems like the standard get out when the simple answer is the govt screwed up.

Further on this, I managed to speak to Rhys again today after being unable to get hold of him all last week. It’s clear that he is a Saturn Pass guy and not that close to what’s going on at M19, but he did say that;

SP works with all tests
They’ve done a lot of work to make sure it works with AffiDx (don’t know what’s involved myself - would have thought it would just be QR code recognition but then I’m a technical idiot.)
He said M19 can offer their RSPT, and provide training for supervisors such that tests thereafter can be done by the employee with the supervisor via zoom/teams
He said M19 can also supply a self test, which he said was Biozek.
He had no firm handle at all with what’s going on with AffiDx, other than to say he knew lots of things were going on in the background.

Very true HD2U. There are short term drivers as well as headwinds here.

But longer term I can see a much wider transition to people taking more control over their own health using digital solutions supported by an array of rapid tests for different conditions. Covid has changed the way companies operate etc through home working and better use of tech, and alongside that the use of LFT’s (which lets face it, Joe Public had no idea about pre Covid) has become normalised.

ABDX is in a prime position to benefit from that I think.

Great news re AffiDx - it was a worry for some, including me, that it wouldn’t detect Omicron given the number of S protein mutations.

If I’m a little wary here it’s because lock ins, put in place when ABDX listed, all expire today. So large holders who could not previously sell, now can.

Who knows! If I were guessing, I’d say 1marcr (who I’ve no reason to disbelieve) was at ABDX (either Doncaster or York) and saw batches manufactured to mark the conclusion of the TT process.

Don’t know if this adds anything, but in page 3 (Chairman and CEO statement) of their annual report to June, ABDX say

“The Group’s current manufacturing capacity now totals over 150m tests in card format and up to 85m tests to FOILED DEVICE format per annum.”

Agree Pedro - interestingly though, when I called them earlier I asked which test from their range was the best “because they all looked the same to me”, the chap went straight to AffiDx, without hesitation.
