Posting for info, here’s a paper published 31/12/21 discussing cancer therapy induced cardio toxicity. Para 2.1 discusses Dox in particular;

“ Doxorubicin is a chemotherapeutic antibiotic of the anthracycline group first isolated in 1969 from Streptomyces peucetius [8]. It is regularly used to treat solid and haematological malignancies, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer and acute myeloid leukaemia [9]. Though efficacious, doxorubicin usage clinically is restricted by its cardiac side-effects. Though doxorubicin is associated with a number of acute cardiovascular complications, these are usually minor and transient [10]. However, longer term CTIC is a serious compli- cation of treatment, with doxorubicin-induced heart failure (HF) carrying a mortality rate of 60% once diagnosed [11]. The total dose of doxorubicin is a major risk factor in CTIC devel- opment [11–13], with an incidence of 3–5% at 400 mg/m2 rising to 18–48% at a 700 mg/m2 cumulative dose [11,14]. Currently, the primary defence against doxorubicin-HF is limiting the cumulative dose to less than 450 mg/m2, but this also limits the therapeutic benefit and does not prevent all cases of CTIC [15].”

AVA6000 seems to me an excellent way of dealing with these clinical restrictions and increasing therapeutic effect.

I’m looking a little longer term here.

Prior to Covid nobody really knew what LFTs were, but now everyone does and their value has become clear. Doctors surgeries and the NHS are severely strained, and quick tests for triage purposes could easily become the norm. Vatic believe so - it’s their entire business model. Medusa 19, set up by Richard Hughes who is renowned for spotting new trends, was set up for the same reason, and even Michael Mina has left academia to go work for a company with a similar model. I think we are going to move into a world where people can more proactively test themselves without having to use health services, and they will all be using LFTs.

We will get what we get from Covid - maybe nothing! But I think the LFT market will now expand regardless and ABDX will benefit.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I see Vatic appointed a new Director of Digital Health this month. It’s interesting because;

-Vatic currently only have one product (as far as I’m aware), and we make it.
-Their employee count on LinkedIn keeps going up, so they must have some confidence in it.
-The guy they appointed came directly from the UKHSA/DHSC, where he was listed as being “Head of Product - Covid 19 App”, and more recently, the Director of New Propositions responsible for that app.
