RE: Directors Q and A6 Aug 2021 17:25
"My (general) point is: All CEO's of companies will always accentuate the positive and ignore the negative" - Wyn. Well, I think your point deserves some discussion.
But before I start that, I noted your comment about me and based on what I was saying: "You seem to get emotionally involved with the company and its personnel and I don't". Firstly, I guess that was supposed to imply that by being "emotional about my investments" makes me a lesser investors than you, right? Let's not be gullible here as that is exactly what it is implied in "any" aspect of life's endeavours when someone is said to be "emotional" about something. Well, since I am not a machine but a human being, and I cannot just switch off the "emotional" aspect in me, I can happily say that I do use emotions quite a lot in my life..especially when I choose what flavour of ice-cream I want as it reminds me of certain things in my childhood. However, having said that, I make sure that the ice-cream is of the highest quality and I never buy crappy ones.
Secondly, I think because one says he "likes the CEO", or "trusts the CEO", it doesn't mean that these "feelings" are based purely on an emotional state of mind. Certainly, the trust that emanates from the CEO is not only on what he says, as you implied, but his actions so far (like the 10p placing, the better drill machine we got, the cost cutting actions like being at the camp site sleeping on a hard floor instead of a 5 star hotel, his updates done when that was possible, his genuine demeanor, his enthusiasm, the relationship with the Tanzania Government, and so many other things).
You say, "[a]lso I don't get judgemental on a company, its SP's or its CEO, whether I make money in it or not". Crickey, I would give up investing in the market if investing was a purely mechanical endeavour for me. I give you an example, if I were to invest in AVCT now, which I will again, it would be not only because of the money I would possibly make, but because of its oncology aspect which is close to my heart. Yeah, call that emotional but so be it. I guess, however, there is an emotional aspect to you, when it comes down to investing that is not dissimilar to anyone here, though; I can bet my left testicle that losing money will be as painful an experience to you, as anyone here, and that emotional drive will keep you looking into you TA charts instead of the real experiences of those drilling under the Tanzania heat.
