RE: Cp settlement29 Jul 2022 19:24
The rumour doesn’t make sense. Why would Cineplex link it to share price? Share price doesn’t always correlate with company performance.
Plus, couldn’t CINE dilute the share price in one way or the other to ensure that they don’t need to pay all the way up until 2027?
I would have expected that an out of court settlement would be based around revenue/profit, and Cineplex know full well that the box office recovery is on the way, so it would be a much more secure way to obtain the money.
$125m is an enormous reduction, CINE must have sent some incredible negotiatiors to get that kind of reduction.
Then again, it has been almost 8 months since the judgement and this is the very first rumour. Why would the individual in question wait this long? Looking at his history it appears he has been invested in CINE even before the judgement and he has had both negative and positive views, he has been mostly positive for the past few months. The account has been in existence for over a year, so it isn’t a disposable account.
No clue, anyone’s guess, all in my opinion as always. You’ve got to remember that CINE is up about 36% in the past 2 weeks though, on no major news other than incremental short position reductions.
