Like you say, 40p would give (nearly) everyone anything from a decent to a stupendous return...and a free ride!
But there is a real danger of people expecting far too much and reacting negatively to any proposal put before holders (voters).
Whilst I can see how much I and others think we are worth, the true value might be in the medium term plans.
I know many are looking for a massive windfall, but you might need to take a longer term view to get maximum value here?
From my own personal perspective (I appreciate every investor has their own personal circumstances) an initial 40p divi would give me enough to change my life. The prospect of then leaving my shares on a free ride and getting future divi's (free money) for years to come would be amazing.
This is obviously only one of many potential outcomes, but I think the 'clean break' at maximum possible value is looking less likely imo.
