If you're holding overnight you are swing trading not day trading really. Longer than a few weeks and it's core trading.
A good return for day trade, selling and buying on same day, is 2R. Two times the amount you risked (R is difference between purchase and stop price)
It's been a great Jan for trading. Feb is looking dodgy for shares, historically it always is, but trading gives you something to do with your trigger finger. I find I don't fret about the long term account since getting into trading. I go weeks without even logging in to see how it's doing. I'll check it in 5 years. You also get tuned to a share price, and can see great times to add a few to the long term hold.
