Further to Cricketman’s post about this yesterday, some more press below from Russia highlighting how big a problem this could be for NN. As someone eluded to, if NN are still in the FSP then this could galvanise their desire to secure more assets and spread their risk.

Nornickel continues to experience problems with the exploitation of its assets.
Due to flooding, the company is forced to partially suspend the operation of the Oktyabrsky and Taimyr mines of the Polar Branch, which together account for up to 65% of the Group's processed ore.

Not sure how up to date this is but was interested to read up on how projects like MT can be a catalyst for what the regional government is looking to achieve in Kola. This combined with comments from central gov around speeding up the licensing process for miners show that responsible mining is at the heart of the economic plan. Could also expect there could be support provided for a project like MT along a similar line to what they are providing up the road a Federova Tundra with regards to infrastructure?

Foreign Investment Commission approves deals with Japan and UAE

Today, February 19, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin chaired a meeting of the Foreign Investment Control Commission. According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the meeting considered the applications of foreign investors for preliminary approval of transactions in relation to Russian companies.
The keynote address was delivered by the head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service Maxim Shaskolsky. As it turned out, interest for potential foreign partners was concentrated in such areas as the production and supply of aviation equipment, exploration and production of minerals, and the provision of services in ports and airports.

The government commission approved, among other things, a deal, as a result of which the Arab company Tavazun Stratijik Development Fund LLS, together with the Russian holding Russian Helicopters, will develop and organize the production of new models of helicopters by the Russian company BP-Technologies, " government.

Also, following the meeting, a deal was approved by the Japanese National Corporation for Oil, Gas and Metals in relation to the Russian company INK-Krasnoyarsk, whose activities are related to the exploration and production of oil in new oil-bearing areas.

I think they are aware that holders appreciate updates and this was within the limits of what they can share as a result of the FSP. I’m not sure if a message to the bidders would be needed by this point but if the bidders didn’t already know, it would be one that we already know - the company’s prospects continue to be developed and buyers can either come and get us now or wait until we develop further.

Interesting, are they out of kilter? Maybe the £2M, £893k and £250k seller shown on London South East could be expecting NN to announce something that may reduce the next divi but is needed to secure more resources? I haven’t followed NN trades but be interesting if this was out of the norm and a trade of sorts. Guess we’ll find out soon!

Nice deficit of PT and increasing demand for PT as an investment safe haven should keep prices high according to this from Kommersant. It’s no wonder we’re seeing II’s increasing to get PGM exposure. Small insert and link which can be translated is below:

As a result, the metal deficit at the end of the year amounted to 390 tons, which is a third higher than the deficit in 2019. "Recovering industrial demand for platinum may face a lack of supply. I can also hear South Africans too Mac, they’re singing to us and also Russian investors about their PGM mining know how and the extra shareholder value that could be achieved through their proposals. Problem is their singing is making NN chant louder : )

Well apparently the answer is:

They did want it and Rosnedra found in favour of Russian Platinum. How come I can find this out and I can’t speak Russian and don’t have vast PGM industry experience? The funny thing is that Russian Platinum didn’t have a presence in Norislk before whereas funnily enough Norilsk Nickel did.

Previously, the company did not work in the Norilsk industrial district, although by that time it already owned a license for the Montenegrin copper, nickel and platinum field.
