????????????The French and German sides have been requesting a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York despite the EU's alleged ban on bilateral contacts with the Russian side, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says.

??French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock have been seeking a meeting with Lavrov for two days in a row while the EU has been dissuading other parties from having contacts with the Russian side, Zakharova told the Solovyov Live show.

????????The EU had given instructions to cancel all bilateral contacts with Russia on the sidelines of the UNGA in response to Moscow's actions in Ukraine and the partial mobilization in Russia, Cypriot government spokesman Marios Pelekanos told the CyBC radio earlier on Thursday.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has called for the European Union to lift sanctions against Russia before the end of the year, as he believes they are having unwanted side effects for the Hungarian population.

«The sanctions are causing economic problems, an energy crisis and inflation,» Orbán said Wednesday at a meeting with members of his party, Fidesz, according to the pro-government ‘Magyar Nemzet newspaper.

The Hungarian leader has blamed the sanctions on «Brussels bureaucrats», who «promised» that the punishments would only harm Moscow. However, in his opinion, «they cause more damage to Europe than to Russia».

Orbán made this statement on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin, of whom he has been an ally in recent years, announced the call-up of 300,000 reservists and threatened to use nuclear weapons.

In addition, the foreign ministers of the EU-27 agreed early Thursday morning to impose new sanctions against Russia following the new escalation of tensions. These additional punishments will affect Russian economic sectors such as technology and the European ‘black list’ of people whose assets are frozen in the EU and who are banned from entering will be extended.

The Hungarian position has delayed or blocked the imposition of sanctions during these last months, so that Budapest obtained, for example, a particular exemption in the embargo imposed on Russian oil. Decisions within the EU require unanimity, so Hungary’s endorsement is essential

Putin says Russia wants end to war in Ukraine ‘as soon as possible’
Putin has told India’s prime minister that he wants the war in Ukraine to end “as soon as possible”, adding he understands that India has concerns about the war.

“I know about your position on the conflict in Ukraine, and I know about your concerns. We want all of this to end as soon as possible,” the Russian president told Narendra Modi during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan.

The SCO’s permanent members, besides India, include China, Russia, ****stan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Putin, who has also held direct talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit, on Wednesday acknowledged Beijing’s concerns about the war.

In addition to that, EUA have been very careful to keep good relationship with Russia. So if there was any impact we would have known by now. And Russia has distinguished between those companies that either chose to, divest or mothballs their operations, to those that have stayed. I'm sure Russia appreciates EUA stance.
