Great to spend time with the NVidia team today in Las Vegas and get hands on with the new DGX Spark (and Andrew McCartney). Can't wait for the Whitespace team to get hands on with our own DGX Spark in a few weeks, from NVidia's seed programme, and bench test its performance in support of our mission driven defence AI at the edge and on autonomous platforms.

Are we in an AI hype cycle?

I remember the dotcom days - I was CFO of a tech company and we IPO'd 4x over subscribed. At the time it was very exciting - I was 29 and CFO of a listed tech company...

...it didn't last - but the transformational impact of the Internet/Web did.

There is huge froth in some of the big circular deals out there, where: chip providers, cloud providers and foundational model providers place orders/investments/bets in a circular loop with no actual customer involved.

We keep away from that and deliver AI capabilities to real customers, in important sectors with demonstrable value-add.

The key with any of these 'headline deals' is whether an actual end customer is paying for AI that makes them: faster, smarter, safer or efficient.

The dotcom days were exciting but the tech actually moved quite slow - today the tech is moving so fast and that adds an extra dimension.

I would say we are getting close to the OpenAI Bubble going with loads of .ai companies that use Openai API with a UI/UX and un-authorised open source code, etc. As every revolution there is always a huge factor of victims to victories, but the victories always do very well, just like the .com crash. Good AI with real engineering thought and end users needs (not just the AI Applications, but thinking about their data, hosting environment even basic of GPU cost, etc) will end up doing even better. I for 1 cannot wait for the noise and nonsense to go as just a huge distraction to real AI companies.

Receiving that kind of device early isn’t just symbolic it’s a strategic advantage.

Whitespace now becomes

• A reference customer for Spark-class compute.

• One of the first to build production-grade sovereign AI applications on NVIDIA’s new architecture.

• A potential systems integrator or OEM partner for governments and defence clients who want to deploy the same architecture at scale.

So, in the same way Dell, HP, and Lenovo became trusted commercial builders of NVIDIA infrastructure, Whitespace could become:

The defence / sovereign-AI equivalent the entity that operationalises Spark systems for air-gapped, mission-critical environments.

That’s a valuable position both technically and reputationally.

NVIDIA’s seeding is rarely just R&D it’s pipeline generation.

Once Whitespace demonstrates operational value with their single unit for example, running multi-modal LLMs on classified or tactical data the next step is scaling:

• Deploy 10s or 100s of Spark-class units in defence labs or field environments.

• Integrate with NVIDIA’s DGX Cloud for hybrid inference.

• Potentially establish Sovereign AI Data Centres using GB200 or NVL72 architectures.

This could later evolve into

• Public-private partnerships for national AI infrastructure.

• AI sovereign-cloud offerings (on NVIDIA architecture).

• Licensing and recurring service contracts huge revenue potential.

If you think about it in broader context this is exactly the same pattern NVIDIA used 10 years ago

• Seed a handful of DGX-1s into elite labs → those labs drove deep learning → that justified data-centre scale compute.

Now they’re doing it again but for sovereign, edge, and defence AI.

Whitespace just became one of those labs.

NVIDIA doesn’t “seed” lightly. They reserve early-access hardware for

• Cloud hyperscalers (AWS, GCP, Azure)

• Tier-1 research labs (MIT, TUM, Cambridge)

• Strategic defence or sovereign partners

If Whitespace received one of 50 Spark units, that puts them in that strategic partner tier, the group NVIDIA expects to

Prove how national-scale or enterprise-grade AI can be deployed securely, locally, and operationally outside the hyperscale cloud.

That’s a sovereignty play.

Whitespace’s work with Defence Holdings (and prior UK government & NATO-adjacent contracts) makes them the perfect test case for

• Air-gapped AI systems

• On-prem LLM training/inference

• Secure edge compute for defence or intelligence applications

NVIDIA gets to show that “AI sovereignty” can still run on NVIDIA silicon not some open-source or Chinese chip alternative.

DGX Spark isn’t a consumer device. It’s a petaflop-class AI node designed to sit where cloud compute can’t reach on desks, ships, bases, labs.

By giving one to Whitespace

• NVIDIA is testing edge deployment in critical infrastructure settings.

• They’re observing how Spark performs under defence-grade constraints no internet, sensitive data, 24/7 uptime, limited power envelope.
