Being invited to NATO’s Task Force Maven Industry Day puts Defence Technologies (a subsidiary of Defence Holdings) among a tiny handful of companies trusted to present operationally ready AI systems to senior NATO and Allied Command representatives.

That’s essentially a shortlist for future NATO integration, the step before formal trials and procurement.

For context: Task Force Maven is NATO’s flagship AI modernization program, equivalent to the Pentagon’s JAIC (Joint AI Center).

Project Ixian being described as a sovereign-AI pipeline means it’s not just another analytics platform — it’s being positioned as part of Europe’s broader push for AI and data sovereignty (i.e., autonomy from U.S. or Chinese tech dependence).

By showcasing at both NATO and Google’s Digital Sovereignty Summit, they’re straddling two key spheres:

Defence sovereignty (trusted national control)

Cloud sovereignty (secure, compliant infrastructure for allied data)

This places Defence Technologies squarely in the emerging “sovereign AI” market where governments are actively seeking non-U.S. owned, trusted AI vendors.

Collaboration with Google Cloud’s EMEA public sector and defence teams gives Defence Technologies a major credibility lift.

For defence and intelligence clients, “sovereign AI” is only as useful as its ability to scale securely across cloud infrastructure and Google brings that operational muscle. It suggests Defence is now seen as a viable integrator capable of bridging hyperscale infrastructure and classified, sovereign workloads.

MoD investigating claims Russian hackers stole files on military bases including RAF Lakenheath

The Ministry of Defence is investigating claims that Russian hackers have stolen hundreds of sensitive military documents and published them on the dark web.

The files hold details of eight RAF and Royal Navy bases, including RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, as well as Ministry of Defence staff names and emails, The Mail On Sunday reported.

Cybercriminals accessed the cache of files by hacking a maintenance and construction contractor called Dodd Group, the newspaper said.

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson said: “We take a robust and proactive approach to cyber threats that could pose risks to national interests.

“We are actively investigating claims that information relating to the MoD has been published on the Dark Web.

“To safeguard sensitive operational information, we will not comment any further on the details.”

The Dodd Group has been approached for comment.

Leaked documents reportedly hold information about a number of sensitive RAF and Navy bases, including RAF Lakenheath where the US Air Force’s F-35 jets are based.

The hack follows a series of high-profile data breaches at the MoD.

Personal data of service personnel and veterans, including names, bank details and some addresses, was in the payroll system, which was accessed in the large-scale hack, revealed last year.

Up to 272,000 service personnel may have been affected.

The same year, the Government covertly set up the Afghanistan Response Route for people in the country whose details were leaked “in error” by a defence official in February 2022.

i was fortunate to be invited by the oracle defence team to attend, present and brief at their ai world event in las vegas last week. andrew mccartney, cto of defence holdings plc joined me and we had the opportunity to not only share the great work whitespace is doing with the oracle team but also engage with executives and brief them on the collaboration between whitespace and defence holdings (defence technologies) and some of the exciting things in the pipeline. aside from meeting with team oracle, we also engaged with nvidia on the new dgx spark (of which we are receiving 1 of 50 seed devices from the nvidia public sector team in the next week or so) and also the google team and discussed the gdc globally and the sovereign secret cloud in the uk. i also met with dina kakaras, commercial x lead and james ***ner mbe, oracle uk public sector, to discuss how whitespace, and our partnership with defence holdings plc, can better support the mod mission in 25/26 as well as brief dina on some of the work whitespace is currently deploying/deployed into the mod. great also to meet with the oracle australian defence team to explore a possible collaboration and also meet with the md of red reply to discuss partnering into nato. on top of this i was proud to be invited to give two presentations at the conference on whitespace's work in defence and as a member of oracle's defence ecosystem programme, as well as appear on oracletv for an interview (now that was a first and, just a little bit, nerve wracking) and culminating in a closed door briefing with oracle's svp for defence and national security and vp for oracle's sovereign cloud regions globally, along with senior members of their teams. all in all a fantastic week of keynotes, presentations, briefings, interviews and opportunities to engage with both oracle leadership as well as some of their key strategic partners. a long list of actions and follow-ups - many of which will end up on linkedin and, a few, in the media over the next few months (yes, that is a blatant tease). many thanks to team oracle for being such great hosts and being so engaged in us as an oracle partner.
