Why would a Big Hitter need Argos or Rock hopper ?
The leases are on a ''use it or lose it'' basis and that deadline is rapidly approaching. I would think a big hitter may wish to take out the whole basin, without having to pay off any soon to be expired lease holders.
Why would the FIG not want to award a ''drill ready'' big player the leases? Saves messing around with small players struggling to find a reliable partner.
I think the future of Argos maybe in fishing and as a landlord to oilers.
Please note I would dearly love to see Argos as a player in the FI industry. Yet, I am struggling to see how they can do that in a competitive environment, they just do not have the muscle, along with RKH and any other hopefuls in either basin.
Bigger picture suggests that the success of Shale oil, love it or hate it, is going to significantly reduce off shore deep oil. The demands to ensure cost reduction for offshore is going to see a very aggressive sole proprietorship aimed at very well defined targets. This is big oiler territory.
Argos and RKH have done what the big oilers wanted, that is derisked the North basin, they know where to target and need no further help to drill.
Just my thoughts
Coming back to Argos until they start to engage their employers by answering simple questions about how much is in the bank please. Unti the BOD start to wake up to the the reality that all stakeholders are entitled to know what is in the bank!!. I now see Argos as a red flag stock.
