RE: GPHA25 Nov 2019 07:33
Good question,.... bu I would have thought that it would be the agreement on the tariffs and the price structuring around the tariffs that would have been the hold up to the contract signing. If you read the new Tariff pricing document,... which is for Tema and Takoradi,.. you can see that the pricing has now also been structured to reflect the volume of goods being shipped/handled. That doesn't necessarily effect us as these costs in the main relate to the handling on to and off the ships,.. but it would, no doubt, have been an important part of MPS' negotiations etc., and their 'profitability'.
From our point of view it appears that MPS have negotiated the % increase in the tariff without having given up any of the overall volume ( as per the previous article, which suggested that they had conceded 20%)..... so good news. However I suspect that they will give something back, if only to placate GPHA and allow them to 'sell' the deal to the unions etc.,
The way the GPHA stressed in that article that decisions would be made in the 'national' interest,.... suggests to me that the government and powers that be are in agreement have backed and given the green light to MPS etc.,.. hence we have the new tariffs operational from 2nd December.
No red dot yet. But the last was intra-day,... and in any case we are now one day less until it does appear.
