Defence Holdings (ALRT) – Why this could be one of the most compelling buys on the London market
Defence Holdings has just completed a transformation into the UK’s first listed, software-led defence platform. The timing could not be better. The UK Strategic Defence Review 2025 puts sovereign AI, autonomy, secure communications, and resilient infrastructure at the very top of the agenda. That is exactly the space Defence Holdings is targeting.
The company has already started to move beyond strategy into execution. Project Ixian, its first sovereign AI product for information operations, was announced in September. It addresses one of the fastest-growing areas of defence need: countering disinformation and hybrid threats. Partnerships with companies like Whitespace, which already have defence-grade infrastructure, accelerate Defence Holdings’ ability to deliver.
Leadership credibility is another major factor. The appointment of Field Marshal Lord Houghton, former Chief of the Defence Staff, as Chairman adds enormous weight. This is someone with deep connections across the MoD, NATO and allied militaries, who can open doors and ensure Defence Holdings is taken seriously at the highest levels.
Despite these developments, the share price remains at penny-stock levels. Market cap is tiny compared with the opportunity. Even a modest contract win with the MoD or NATO would justify a significant re-rating. In a world where defence spending is climbing sharply and governments are under pressure to adopt agile, sovereign solutions, Defence Holdings looks well-positioned to capture meaningful contracts.
In short, this is a company aligned with powerful tailwinds, led by credible figures, and already demonstrating product delivery. The risk is there, as with any early-stage defence tech business, but the upside if they land even one material contract is considerable. For investors looking for asymmetric opportunities, Defence Holdings could be one of the most attractive on AIM right now.
