House Speaker Kevin McCarthy refused the call to visit Ukraine made by President Volodymyr Zelensky during an interview with CNN that is set to air later on Wednesday.
In a preview of the discussion, Zelensky said that "Mr. McCarthy has to come here to see how we work, what's happening here, what war caused us, which people are fighting now, who are fighting now. And then, after that, make your assumptions." The Republican declined the offer while reiterating support for Ukraine, noting he doesn't support the Biden administration's "black check" aid.
