UK annual inflation at 6.7% in September, unchanged from August

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) increased by 6.7% year over year and by 0.5% on a monthly basis in September, the United Kingdom's Office for National Statistics reported on Wednesday. The 12-month inflation rate in September stayed at the same level as in August.

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) in September was up 6.3% annually and 0.5% compared to the previous month.

The annual increase in core CPI, the indicator that excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, stood at 5.9% in September, unchanged from the 12-month rate documented in August.

Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tufan Erginbilgic is planning to cut about 2,500 job posts in an effort to reduce the aerospace and defense company's costs, Sky News reported on Monday.

According to people familiar with the matter, the decision will affect Rolls-Royce's departments around the entire world, not just in the United Kingdom. However, reportedly, hundreds of those cuts will be made in Britain.

The sources added that the world's second-largest aircraft engine maker informed the UK government of its decision, as per an earlier agreement.

Tory MP Peter Bone is facing a six week suspension from the House of Commons after an Independent Expert Panel found he had “committed many varied acts of bullying and one act of sexual misconduct” against a member of his staff in 2012 and 2013.

The IEP has recommended that Mr Bone is suspended from the Commons for six weeks.

If the sanction is agreed by MPs it would trigger the Recall of MPs Act 2015 which could then result in a by-election in his Wellingborough constituency.
