As interim CEO, not sure if those days count or not, but he has to show he isn’t Bernard, just being a Bernard clone is not going to make market ( and shareholders ) sit up and applaud him.

The fall in profits may affect the companies' ability to hand extra cash back to investors through share buybacks.

They have been keen on aggressive programmes to repurchase their own shares after making historic cuts to their dividends during the Covid pandemic.

Shell will report its full year results on Thursday. It is forecast to have made £20.3 billion in 2023. BP is expected to have made £11billion in 2023. The company will report on February 6.

Just a few thoughts from this

1) I guess that kills any suggestion that Equinor. might have bid for BP, as why would you do this then bid for the company

2) that’s them changed 2 partnerships ( BP Lightsource and With Equinor) to whole ownership.Thats significant for some reason, as it’s a new development.It may simply be that they now believe they have all the skills to do it themselves.

But it does simplify if they ever wanted to float the renewables, or for someone bidding.

I expecting more of this, as I think it may simply be that they hope to sell on their energy themselves ( for charging or Hydrogen production ).

It’s not earth shattering, but it also makes it slightly easier to value all the pieces,than when they are all partnerships ( although the oil industry never had a problem with that)

It didn’t give a lot of depth of analysis,but think when we stop getting all theses negative analysis it might be the start of the next move up.

Recession still could go either way.

Interest rates are near or at top.

Think this year it may be US oil production numbers that set oil price with help from OPEC.

US production surprised upwards last year, can it really do it 2 years in a row.

I’m starting to have a wee feeling that the weekly figures, for crude and products, has some correlation with how much they export of each from US but it seems too simple for the analysts to be missing so guess I am wrong.

Alliance News) - Haleon PLC on Thursday it has agreed to sell the ChapStick lip balm brand to Suave Brands Co for around USD430 million in cash.

The Surrey, England-based consumer healthcare company said it will also receive a passive minority interest in Suave Brands, which is a portfolio company of Yellow Wood Partners.

At the time of entering into the binding agreement, Haleon said this minority interest was valued at approximately USD80 million.

Two thoughts regarding the “ German news”

1) The biggest shareholder of new Harbour will,still be the current owner of the technology, so until they sell their shares nothing really changes.

2) since their strategy is at some time in future to exit, they would be a willing seller to the German government if Germany really needs to have these technologies.

The Germans have spent large sums to help their other industries in the energy crisis, so if it’s important they just need to throw some cash this direction

You are very likely to be right.

My thoughts are

No one can say that present strategies are working for sp.

Murray cannot just carry on the Bernard strategy.

He has to do something to show he is boss and it’s different.

He should be able to fund 10% uplift in div mainly through reduced number of shares to pay div on.

I hope he drops back the buybacks a little also to fund an extra 10% uplift.

Lot of people don’t like buybacks, and want more div, so he can please a lot of people.

The great thing is we find out in a couple of weeks

It’s what I would do if I was him( so probably won’t happen)

20% looks so much better than 10% and is just about affordable.

And stuff the media agenda

Shell paid £47 billion for BG

We are currently worth £76 billion.

Allowing for inflation are we only half as big again?( or less).

Or another way of looking at it everything outside onshore US is worth just a little more than BG
