RE: Operational timeline for Rukwa25 Apr 2025 07:28
Helium One, the pioneering company in helium exploration and production in Tanzania, has officially completed compensation payments exceeding TZS 100 million to residents of five villages in Momba District, Songwe Region—marking a key milestone in the progress of its long-term helium development project.
The compensated communities—Itumbula, Lwatwe, Masanyinta, Mkonko, and Muungano—had provided land for the project’s operations. According to Emmanuel Ghachocha, Project Supervisor at Helium One, all payments were made in accordance with national laws, supporting local stakeholders impacted by exploration and drilling activities.
The project, which began in 2015, has already delivered strong results. From 2021 to 2025, the company drilled four exploratory wells, with major discoveries at Itumbula West 1 and Tai 3. Testing revealed helium concentrations of up to 7.9%, underscoring the region’s significant potential.
“This project is not short-term—it’s a long-term national opportunity,” said Ghachocha. “We’re looking at more than a decade of development and production.”
