I agree that they had a chance for tomorrow for best part of 24 hours, but as you say maybe not enough contingency for everything to happen, including removal of old rope and fix new one to buoy, etc.!
Windy.com shows next friday still very iffy, but improving, so would say a few days later. Someone did suggest about 19th, seems about right, but too far out for sure to have any faith!

A Russian frigate and assisted fleet of tug and tanker reported in today’s Times to have sheltered in the Moray Firth yesterday! The Royal Navy was sending a vessel from Newcastle to shadow.
Maybe the RN told HUR/BW to get the hell out of there and back to Cromarty!?

Certainly the buoy was built in Dubai, no doubt under BW contract (and paid for by BW).
However, not sure, but it may have been handed over to HUR for installation.
Would have thought all the "field" equipment would now be HUR responsibility/owned, but you maybe right.
Either way, any adverse events on hook up will have a greater impact on HUR than BW and thus they will have a say/input into that operation, IMO. Can't believe HUR will be that hands off, but of course they will not be directly involved in the minutae of the actual operation, just the overall decision making!?

It will be a joint decision in principle, but the the final say on hook up will be the Captain's when on station, together with the onboard OIM (could be the same person, but unlikely). Although the boat is BW, the buoy is HUR and the operation is in the 500m zone. Any adverse events during hook up (god forbid) will impact HUR far more than BW, so they will definitely be at the table.

OK seems enough distance for simultaneous operations, mind you they would need at least 1-2km around each location to allow for approach/departure and contingency for DP failure/whatever and maybe more! Though I am not a mariner.

Do you think that the anchor laying operations might have been a bit tad too close to AM manouverings for hook up that caused the U turn, not just an iffy forecast!? If so, not much joined up thinking/talking!

Thursday is not looking good so no hurry, but friday all day still ok! Hope its just a slow down/check rather than a hightail back to Cromarty!!??

I agree in principle that BW were a bit cavalier in pulling in the rope off centre and it rubbed against the side of the turret and thus weakened it! The protective sheath should now help, but still extra care now required during pull in! As you say could easily have been the remnants of the moon plate lugs or similar, that was the cause.

This friday is a definite possibility and they should be on station to check it all out IMO.

Yeah I think Wednesday onwards is possible, with a bit of a hiccup on Thursday, so Friday is quite likely!

I reckon the rope was delivered by GS this morning!

GS nearly at AM. Feel sure that quick round trip to Aberdeen can only be for the rope!

Is the GS going to Abdn to pick up the rope.....or just going home!? Destn is Abdn rather than anchorage, so here's hoping! Be there by 7pm and so could be back to AM first light?

I agree, that is what I said at 11.36 this morning!
The PR dept was a few hours out of synch probably, and imminent gives more leeway than delivered, in case of last minute hiccup!

I would hope that "imminent" meant just delivered by GS!?

So fae Banchory then......I guess we might of crossed paths at some point then.....but only spent 10 odd years in Aberdeen, but 33 yrs with BP though!
