Only way back for him is to take the company private, probably with some private Equity help - which means the Company will be bid for, and if that happens, I think you can (a) expect the price to go sharply higher, and (b) see plenty of other suitors come out of the woodwork. I think you'll double your money in 6 months here (and earlier if bid activity starts)

No we didn't see anything coming - 'cause nothing has, aside from the share price. Slightly disappointing statement last time, plus horrible sentiment on UK mid and small caps has created an astonishing bargain at these levels. This is vastly overdone folks and I've just increased my holding by 50% at 550p. The investment banks must now be running their slide rule over this!

They are in a closed period - the management is not allowed to say anything considered price sensitive, so your post below is badly informed. The stock price is crazy, but it's not the first time the market has massively over-reacted to some slightly disappointing figures. FFS though, revenues are still going up, and stock now on a single digit PE. What exactly is it that Sutherland has done wrong? When I read the figures it seems to be a very resilient business in a very challenging retail environment. I wouldn't be surprised if the Company gets bid for at this price.

What do you mean 'it was a buy'?? Someone had to sell it to them, hence, like all transactions, it's simultaneously a buy and a sell. Assume we will see another RNS on the seller before too long.

Yes Brad, but the point is that the buys and sells shown on this board are meaningless, so if people attach importance to them, than more fool them. I repeat, every time you buy/sell a stock, someone else has to be on the other end of the transaction - who do you think sends you the shares/cash.

Buying a pint for someone else is a bad metaphor as it is not a transaction, between two people, but a gift from one to the other. However, would you sit around debating whether you had bought from the barman, or that the barman had sold to you? No - 'cause it's irrelevant. The price is the clearing mechanism at which one party agreed to buy, and the other to sell.

....on this board simply reflect whether a trade was nearer the bid or the offer. By definition, every trade has to have both a buyer and a seller so the discussion on whether a trade is one or the other is meaningless.

... market continues to fall. I think the retracement is about two-thirds of the way through from where I put my FTSE shorts on - I'm looking for FTSE to fall to around 6100. However, whilst the US market remains incredibly expensive, the rest of the world now looks fairly valued, whilst the UK is beginning to look incredibly cheap. However if the US falls sharply, difficult to see the rest of the world going up!! I'm keeping my short positions here, but am now starting to think about where I close them off.

Very odd reaction by the market after a steady start - quite bizarre. The divvy is safe given the comfortable coverage, so this makes a yield of 8% - bargain of the year!!

It can still fall 100% from here Alto!! However I do agree that as most people's investment will now doubtless be a miniscule amount (unless you followed the single brain celled organism that is GCCRa and bought more!), the chance of selling and protecting a meaningful amount is now gone.

Pretty decent numbers - revenues down 6% which includes 4 months of ESMA, so consistent with the 10% down that they've always said. Growth remains strong outside of ESMA territory.
Clearly second half of the year will continue to be a tough comparison,and with 70% of revenues now generated by investors categorized as professional, that should continue to deaden the blow, as will continued trading in uncertain times plus BREXIT. The market always looks forward, and it won't be long before it begins to consider the comparison of next year versus this which should focus minds on the current PE (£150m after dividends) and yield (>6%). Clearly risks remain, but stock still looks excellent value at this level.
