I am, however, holding BP for long term growth and the dividends, the same as your intention, with no real exit price or timescale in mind. I tend to lose patience too many times with this investment but, in my split-personality relationship I do believe ( half the time ) that Q1 2022 onwards will provide rewards. Nothing spectacular but slow steady progress from the end of this year barring any unforeseen spanners in the cogs.

I am intrigued why you ask such a hypothetical question. If I would have purchased BHP, I would have done so with an intention to take the profit on results day, retain the profit in cash and wait for a further opportunity.

Off-topic I know but what entry point are you looking at for Rio with the recent ex dividend drop ? . On BP, my opinion is the similar to yours. No rewards short term. It probably needs Q1 22 with no surprises on the way before any real progress. Starts. The global recovery has stagnated and we are no further than we were three months ago with delta etc thus, I guess, the stagnant SP.

I am going to hold and hope that another six months will start a move upwards but what do I know!!!!

I read your post yesterday, did some brief research, considered selling some BP to fund BHP and took the wrong decision... stuck with BP. A continuation of my losing streak of decisions and my unrewarded loyalty with BP. One day, maybe one day....

So as BP buyback their shares the SP should rise or should, at least, provide a floor.

What a load of bulls*it. It has achieved sweet F A so far looking at the SP and it never will.

1st £500m buyback, averaged around £3.10. A financial farce of stupidly and waste of funds. What did that achieve?

2nd £1.5B buyback, so far each transaction has been followed by the share price dropping and now we are back in the 290's.

Yes patience us a virtue when it comes to investing but it does not matter how long you stare at dog turd it will always be dog turd.

This company is not just unloved it's hated.

With respect, you are spouting utter nonsense. Brent is down nearly 1% today. Next you'll be saying that BP is a great buy and is going to rocket.

What a dog of a share. Market beating profits, buybacks, dividend increase and yet no support. Once again under 300p and I feel more certain this will see 290 or below again before 320p. I am starting to question if BP, along with other Oils, will ever get to recover. So much permanent negative pressure ahead from lobbyists, governments, carbon taxes, lawsuits for years to come.

I see no reason for the SP to rise but many reasons to cause it to fall. So much for buybacks providing a floor.

Now I've got your attention!!

Hi mate. It could be. It would be a large increase in daily buyback transactions but if it is, one, it makes total sense to buy while seeming to be undervalued and two, a RNS will confirm this probably this evening.

Either way, I don't see the buybacks having any real benefit to the SP in this current market but hopefully it will eventually.
