"Share based payments" are transactions are of 3 types – equity-settled, cash-settled, and optionally-settled. A transaction is equity-settled where the entity receives goods/services that are settled by issuing equity instruments (that is, shares or share options ) Therefore a wider issue than staff incentives.

I think you misundstood the article. You are just detailing staff incentives. Share count expansion has a number of different types. The article states....

Is it not hypocritical of Cambridge University to accept millions from the Chinese Communist Party in 'funding' and research 'donations' while China are a growing massive world pollutant themselves, as well as carrying out genocide and mass incarceration and repression of millions of Uighurs, Kazakhs and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang in China’s north-west.

Cambridge remains silent on China's pollution and the genecide of millions yet vitual signal by selling some BP shares. Shame on them.

Their action has more to do with the University being the Chinese Communist party's ***** than Climate change concerns.

You are correct, all the time that the average poo is $60 per quarter, $1b per quarter of buybacks will eclipse the current annual + 1.5% share increase but it is still worth noting especially if this was to increase or buybacks were reduced.

On the topic of buybacks. BP are buying back $1.4 billion of their stock to cancel. This reduces the shares by less than 2%.

One fact to bear in mind is the company share count expansion is +1.5% every year for staff incentive schemes and share-based payments.
