Barratt Developments posts record H1 profit on strong demand

Barratt Developments, the UK�s largest housebuilder, posted record first-half profit as demand for newly-built homes across the country remained high.
Barratt said it had pushed up pre-tax profit by 6.8 per cent year on year to �342.7m in the six months to December and grown revenue by 9.5 per cent to �1.99bn, up from �1.8bn a year ago.
As of February 18 total forward sales were up 2 per cent on the previous year at �2.4bn. Wholly-owned forward sales � which exclude joint ventures � were up 4 per cent at �2.7bn.
The group bought land worth �641.2m in the six months to December, compared to �328.2m in the same period a year prior.
In December, when the builder reported some metrics for the half-year period, it said total completions of new homes had increased by 2 per cent year on year 7,324. Average selling prices across its developments were up 6.5 per cent at �281,000.
David Thomas, chief executive, said: �With good consumer demand, a healthy forward order book and a robust balance sheet, overall we have had a strong first half and we continue to deliver against our operational and financial objectives.�
