Affordable housing is by definition housing that is available to buy or rent at a price below open market price.
Mainly owned by Housing Associations builders are obliged to build these types of properties on sites as a planning condition and sell them to Housing Associations, they do not like it but have no option.
As for Rachel Reeve building Three Hundred thousand new homes a year, then this will be Labours first broken promise.
We have not built that number for nearly 70 years. There is not the capacity in the industry to do it or anything near it.
It would need a huge overhaul of Planning and Envoirenment laws, and will meet huge resistance from Councils, the Green brigade and local residents. One and a half million in 5 years? I would be amazed if it reaches 1 million.
However, all good for House Builders.
