RE: NHS.No National Screening.28 Nov 2025 18:28
Tonight's BBC News specifically mentions the Transform project as something that could lead to a reversal of today's decision (which is still predominantly based on the inaccuracy of the conventional PSA test). The Transform trials are funded by Prostate Cancer UK and the UK Government, so today is just one stage of a protracted process. The spokesperson for Prostate Cancer UK that appeared on the news said they are "undeterred" by today's decision.
Prostate cancer UK made it clear, in replies to my previous enquiries, that they are open to including new or emerging tests at anytime during the trials, provided they still have funds available. If OBD proposed trialing PSE and comparing it with the other methodologies already in the Transform project (Stockholm enhanced PSA, saliva test, rapid MRI test), I believe they would be greeted with open arms AND funds to support the necessary tests. A likely outcome would be validation of PSE to the satisfaction of medical regulators making the test an option for the NHS and for a future screening programme in the UK or elsewhere. It is madness that OBD have not acted on this once in a lifetime opportunity.
