Your mentioning of that potential scenario has made me think of Superdry.

This one caught my attention after the wild swings of late.

It is also the type of outfit that I like for a trade and sometimes, for an investment.

Having looked into the financials now (been busy elsewhere, so my first chance was this weekend)...I can see why the SP has collapsed over the past 12+ months.

The inside buying is always interesting, especially when it is a meaty sum, but goodness me, did they not try to raise funds to clear some of that debt pile a year or more ago?

It looks like it would be too dilutive now to do so, and I have to agree with the other poster here who said the bond holders control the destiny of this name.

Nevertheless, it could well attract some M&A interest, although I would manage expectations of what any offer(s) might look like.

I do not think, given the above, that shareholders would be facing a bumper pay out. Even those whose average is around the current price.

But time will tell and just my thoughts. GLA.

I reckon CARD gets plenty of m/c customers, not just the financially poorer elements of society.

Granted, I have not been into many of their stores myself, but on the odd occasion that I have (since becoming a shareholder, basically), the demographic was certainly not remotely the socialist worker types :) Just kidding. You do not get much more m/c than that rabble.

And if the UK economy goes the way I think it might in 2025, well, if anything, that will IMO increase/widen the customer base for an outfit like CARD.

It is why I hold some DG across the Pond, and also why I retain an interest in BME here. Albeit have held off buying BME so far, but only because one can only have so many fingers in so many pies, without risking excessive dilution/using up too much dry powder.

I have no problem with what you do, elrico and think I praised you for your efforts a few years ago on this very chat board.

I have no comment on whether or not any regulatory infringements have taken place (IMO they have not, but to be honest, I have not really given it much attention either, so am not really in a position to judge), but the track record of SOH is poor.

The list of failures is quite long now and have been detailed before by a few of us (both existing and ex-bulls), so I will not print them again.

The buck stops with SOH and sooner or later, he is going to have to show numbers that justify the faith of other shareholders.

This has been a great trading stock if you have timed it right. Shame I was only ever an investor here!

But having lost faith in SOH to actually deliver, or do right by shareholders in the event he ever finally does, it is not one that I am going to even trade.

I need to have some basic trust in any name, even for a quick spin. But that does not mean that better traders will be able to overlook such sentiments and play the AIM game appropriately.

Well, silver looks like it might complete a head and shoulders soon, and gold has not negated the bear flag either (although close to doing so, IMO), so I do not see manipulation with this stock personally.

This is one of my longest holds and subject to the usual caveats, is likely to be one that I retain until I am pushing up the daisies.

Even if (and hopefully when) we get a multiyear high in this name, I will still keep quite a few back.

But I am not blind to the short term risks, and call it as I see it. Especially when I am long a name. GLA.

Had a small buy order, which I had forgotten about. It hit yesterday.

Dividend payment in a few days, so something to look forward to, even if the price action here is pretty unsatisfying.

The chart gives me the impression of a descending wedge pattern - although do not trust my TA skills, because I don't :)

Hopefully I am right, because the alternative looks like we could easily drop to around 51p-ish, based on how little support there is at these levels, until then.

The fundamentals however, based on the recent update and historical track record, offer some comfort though. Fingers crossed! GLA.

Yep. And, somewhat predictably, we are seeing the private sector (the real economy) shrinking, while the public sector is expanding.

Along with the debt pile.

Have a look at the national debt clocks for us, the US and pretty much the rest of the Western world.

Shandypants: Inflation was a political choice. Which is ultimately the cause of the CoL problems for increasing numbers of people today.

The minimum wage and the so-called living wage are also political choices. Which contributes to inflation, as well as increasing the number of jobs that are starting to get sucked into that bucket. Minimum wage becoming the maximum wage etc.

Not to mention the eye-watering cost of the net zero...policies (let us choose that word!) Or the various foreign wars. And more general foreign aid costs. All highly inflationary, each and every one of these examples.

We are also seeing Western nations starting to cut interest rates, even though it is evident that inflation has not been tamed.

Remember the 2% inflation central bank mandate? Good luck with that, lol.

The establishment has chosen the path of sustained high inflation over corrective (but obviously painful) remedial action.

Which will result in a lot more people getting dragged down in the years ahead.

Not the small number of people who control the game though. You think their wealth has grown significantly in the past four years? Revisit this wealth gap in another four years, I would suggest.

Anyway, it is what it is, but we will have to agree to disagree if you think these theoretical wage increases are going to see any real increase in consumer discretionary spending in the next few years at least.

As I said before here, this is one name that I believe will weather the storm, but I do not dismiss what RetiredBanker has to say. He has made some good points, IMO.

I disagree. This one is terrible for trading. Plenty of others that are better for that purpose.

It is not traders who are to blame for the SP action here. It got oversold and then perhaps slightly overbought.

IMO this is probably just a healthy retrace, which will be followed by another leg up if we get a Santa Rally (next week or so usually).

I did not say it had to be in production in order to determine a value. But reading back my last post, I can see how you came to that conclusion. I could have phrased it better. It does still require a lot more work before something tangible can be applied though.

The only asset they have that is/was apparently 'shovel ready', seems to basically be on the never never (Dundas).

As said before, Disko is years and years away from mining, if it even gets to that stage.

So speculation over potential credible value is really difficult. Perhaps impossible, even.

Which is why the company finances are so important. They have zero/very little leverage, and the market obviously knows this.

The upside potential of course is if a scenario occurs where they announce a deal/deals, with black and white numbers and ideally notification of a long cash runway thereafter.

Some of us consider this unlikely and some feel differently. All of which makes a market,naturally. GLA.
