ITM Power is pleased to announce that we have signed a contract to supply four NEPTUNE V units, totalling 20MW, to La Française de l'Energie SA (FDE), an independent multi-energy producer.

NEPTUNE V is our full-scope 5MW containerised green hydrogen plant, which utilises ITM's leading and proven TRIDENT stack technology. It provides reliable, flexible, and highly efficient hydrogen production capacity and the industry's smallest footprint per MW.

The NEPTUNE V units will be deployed into the first phase of Norway's Hydrogen Hub Agder project, 100% owned by Greenstat, a subsidiary of FDE, developing green energy production projects in Norway. The 20MW green hydrogen hub facility will be dedicated to supplying the maritime industry, and production is expected to start in late 2026. The second phase is expected to be an additional 40MW, which is planned to be launched in 2027.

ITM Power is pleased to announce that EDF Renewables UK and Hynamics, a 100% subsidiary of EDF Group, have selected us to execute a plant integration engineering package for Phase 1 of its North East-based Tees Green Hydrogen project.

The project, which is part of the UK's Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 (HAR1), has previously secured funding from the UK government's Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF)

In July 2024, ITM announced a capacity reservation for four NEPTUNE II units, our full-scope 2MW containerised electrolyser plant, with an unnamed large utility company. Today's announcement is related to the capacity reservation, and the engineering package will cover the integration of four NEPTUNE II units with the balance of plant.

The project will boost local industry and transport by supplying green hydrogen to support decarbonisation efforts and significantly reduce industrial pollution, securing its long-term sustainability.

ITM Power has signed an agreement with Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) to collaborate on sustainable transportation and infrastructure, specifically in the field of green energies, such as green hydrogen and its derivatives.

DB is one of the largest transport companies and railway operators in Europe and is committed to being climate-neutral by 2040. A key element of its decarbonisation strategy is the adoption of alternative drives and usage from green energy sources. Plans include converting DB's fleet of trains, buses, and trucks into low and zero-emission vehicles, as well as building new infrastructure required for operating and maintaining the converted fleets using green energy and green fuels.

UK Government 🇬🇧 Reforms To Accelerate Grid Connections For Green Hydrogen

The UK Government has unveiled reforms to accelerate grid connections for clean energy projects, including hydrogen, with confirmation expected from Ofgem and the National Energy System Operator (NESO).

The aim is to unlock £40bn a year in mostly private clean energy investment and fast-track projects aligned with the government’s Clean Power 2030 and Plan for Change. The reforms will deprioritise “zombie projects” that are not ready or aligned with national energy plans currently clogging the grid connection queue.

“Companies are currently waiting up to 15 years to be connected to the grid leaving promising businesses ‘grid-locked’, and over the last five years, the grid connection queue has grown tenfold,” the government said in an online statement.

The changes will benefit future industries such as data centres and AI, wind and solar, energy storage and the clean energy sector, including hydrogen production, which is highly dependent on access to the electricity grid.

For example, the recently announced £6.5bn HySpeed initiative, being developed by a JCB-led consortium, aims to develop 1GW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030, produced at £5.96/kg ($7.84/kg).

These reforms are expected to facilitate projects like this by providing the necessary infrastructure support.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said that removing ‘zombie’ projects from the queue will shorten connection times for “high-growth firms” and fast-track access for companies delivering homegrown power and strengthening the UK’s energy security.

“Too many companies are facing gridlock because they cannot get the clean energy they need to drive growth and create jobs,” he said.

Hydrogen UK reiterated that limited grid access continues to constrain the pace of hydrogen project development.

“We need to make things quicker, easier and more cost-effective for project developers,” the organisation stated on LinkedIn. “If we can achieve that, the UK can become one of the best places in the world to invest in hydrogen.”

Engineering giant Arup, cement-maker Heidelberg, the building materials company Tarmac and the pipeline business National Gas, are also among a

heavyweight coalition led by Bamford, which submitted proposals to energy secretary Ed Miliband.

The consortium, Project Hyspeed, wants to build one gigawatt of green hydrogen production capacity in the UK by 2030.

The group estimates that it would attract £6.5 billion of private investment and create 24,300 jobs, with at least half of them in this country.

Hydrogen is one of the cleanest forms of energy.

Big step for UK Hydrogen.

The government has just announced the shortlist for Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2), featuring 27 projects representing up to 651MW of new low carbon hydrogen capacity.

That’s more than double the output supported in HAR1, and it’s edging the UK closer to its 2030 ambition of up to 10GW.

This shortlist matters because:

🔹 These are real projects, not just press release hydrogen.

🔹 It covers a mix of technologies, geographies, and end uses – from transport to industrial heat.

🔹 It signals investor confidence and government commitment in a sector that’s had its fair share of 'hurry up and wait'.

50 million zero emission miles travelled by Wrightbus hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric buses! The landmark milestone means that thanks to our fleet of 1800 EV & FCEV buses, Wrightbus along with our partners, customers and operators has prevented 85,000 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere.
