I'm not sure where you got the 2.4M share figure from ? I'm guessing you took the $35M for the most recent purchase & got the figure from there even although there hasn't been an actual share figure stated yet.
As for the increased rate of the current buy-back, it does to an extent depend on the traded volume on a given day, especially the sell volume (because that's effectively what they are buying up after all) as well as the price of course.
Today's volume has been pretty good so far, so I would be expecting the number in tomorrow's RNS to be good to. Wednesday might be a little more difficult as people might be buying in to get the dividend, with Thursday more receptive with those selling after qualifying for the divi.
But if they've bought in an extra say 275,000 before ex-d, that is a $80,000 saving on the amount paid out at the end of September. They will also have lowered the Crescent purchase price by around £160,000 (that's over $200,000) at the same time.
