The market cap of Centrica has risen quite considerably (about 75%) since a year ago on the back of better market expectations for the business.

Incorrect - the Lloyds buybacks have added getting on for 7p per share value . Without them based on the current market cap, the share price would be that much lower.

I think you are a little confused. Buybacks have no relevance to the valuation that the market places on LBG.

Lloyds are able to make double digit returns to shareholders currently.

Last years pre tax profits were about £1 Billion more than in 2018, so therefore not declined

The crazy world of the 'left' would not allow it to be called an invasion. After-all the border force (what 'force'? - none shown) and Lifeboats voluntarily pick them up from up to 12 miles out and in some cases in French waters.

The more that come, the more that will follow - they are ILLEGAL so need to be put in internment camps until such time we can get rid of them or they voluntarily decide to leave after weeks/months/years in harsh camp conditions. This UK should put this situation on a 'war time' footing.

It would be good to see the programme finished this week - this should mean that the next 'voting rights' rns at the end of the month would have taken account of all the purchases for cancellation

this gets very very tedious - must be an age related thing.

the shares are not held in treasury so will be cancelled/processed by treasury after the settlement of a days purchase transactions. As an investor you should know that such transactions will not be completed until the seller receives their money .

it was correct - they are being held in treasury and not being cancelled immediately after purchase transactions are complete.

As regards to what happens to them after a period of time, I had already posted about that either on here or on the Centrica board or both.

correct, but can be cancelled if chosen.

Shares in treasury can be used for 1.staff schemes /incentive plans -2. held until cancelled or 3.sold back into the market.

Their intention is to choose between 1 or 2 or both 1 and 2.

buybacks have done nothing in the recovery of the Centrica business. As with Lloyds the purpose is to reduce share capital.

Under 64 Billion now - the number of shares on it's own is an irrelevance. What matters is the percentage reduction that buybacks for cancellation can assist with.

Centrica is heading towards a 5 year high (about another 10p to go ) - I would most likely have sold another tranche at that stage

Centrica is being revalued by the market because of the better business outlook in recent times.

If you hold the same number of shares, your percentage ownership of Lloyds would still have increased despite not purchasing any more shares, due to the buybacks for cancellation..
