I agree pretty much with both those comments, but I always think there is room ( if personal funds allow ) for some more experimental investment. My own approach is to keep the main bulk of my holdings in the stable businesses that pay dividends, but I like to invest the proceeds in more speculative ( but hopefully well researched!!) areas. If successful then there is the option to take a bit out into the (hopefully) safe stocks and build up that way. Time will tell whether this approach has any merit! Saying all that, I find it hard to invest in good companies that are techincally overvalued. I will always miss out on the Teslas of this world as I can't get my head around the valuations, and on top of that I never know at what point to sell things, which is why I take dividend.... I think TSLA is a great company but I could never bring myself to purchase something that's valuation is so far ahead of itself. My loss I guess! I'm currently in LLOY, DLG, IMB for the boring ones - dividend paying, profit making, dull as dishwater. GGP is by a country mile my favourite 'exciting' stock.
