So assuming a re-rate next week, perhaps worth developing this a little further.
As noted, Avacta has a fantastic tech platform – perhaps ‘threatening’ to others.
With the publicity and (anticipated) re-rate Avacta’s ability to raise a lot more cash at relatively low dilution might be even more ‘threatening’ to some.
Avacta doesn’t (yet, and another discussion) do manufacturing, so capex is going to be relatively low, just keeping the Lab’s and Affimer production going, so with a small raise there could be plenty of money to spend on hiring new Phd’s and Medics and expanding the pre-clinical and clinical trials programmes either directly or through JV’s (such as AffyXell).
So, research-based Biotech, with fantastic (‘game changing’, patent protected) IP, cash flow from Covid testing, the capacity to raise on the markets, might well look like a threat to (say) 'big pharma'?
What do the ‘big boys’ do when they see a threat, they ‘take it out’. (And turn it into an opportunity of course).
Just a thought.

The giveaways – it’s between 17:00 and 17:30, it’s at the UT closing price, and it’s an ‘XOFF’ transaction (off exchange), don’t these guys operate off-shore in places like Gibraltar?
That being true (maybe?), then it strengthens benx4's suggestion that this is a deliberate ‘trail’. While volume was relatively low today, there were a few moderate sized sells throughout the day – suggesting that it’s been a very ‘tight ship’ right up to the Huff Post article.
How this plays out Monday and Tuesday will be ‘fascinating’!

‘Start of coverage’ ought to mean that a Stifel briefing note is heading out to ‘potential’ Institutional Investors and other ‘interested’ parties across UK, Europe and US.
Very interesting timing, just before the Trading Update, all the other expected news, and the Boris plan.
So the next update might turn out something like ‘… we told you it was a good prospect, but some of the uncertainties have now been sorted, so we better do an update to say how much bigger the opportunity will be …’.
(For the update I guess they will have read the TU, Finncap briefs and Myles’ research).

Start of coverage by Stifel’ is great news. Cautious ‘starter for 10’ (230p, Finncap @ 310p), a few bits missing from the valuation, but this company looks to be well placed and no doubt quite influential. US based (good), but wide coverage across UK/Europe.
