Dear Mr Rob24 Feb 2014 10:10
Rob,
I’m not very good at taking compliments but thank you very much for your kind words but I don’t think I’m that good an investor really. I feel like my approach is right but I still have tons to learn about fundamental analysis let alone technical analysis. I have a long way to go and, tbh, I have not been learning much lately because I don’t have the time unfortunately!
All I do is look at shares from a basic fundamental analysis point of view (looking at EV/EBIT mostly which of course filters out any unprofitable companies) then, if I like it, I do some proper research to find something to justify what looks like a low valuation based on the fundamentals. If I am unable to find something or conclude the pros massively outweigh the cons then I’m likely to invest or, in my case, want to invest and slowly watch the opportunity disappear haha!
What I am getting at is that there are far more savvy investors on lse than myself and, on the whole, I just try my best to learn from them at the moment. So basically I’m doing what you’re doing but with far less of the class, charm, and charisma that you bring to every bb you grace.
You said the decorum was here before you arrived but, before you arrived, Bambos and I were the only ones here and we got grated on each other a bit because he was too optimistic / slightly rampish in my opinion, and I got the impression he thought I was too pessimistic / slightly derampish (apologies bambos if I have been mistaken!). And then you arrived with your natural politeness, sophistication, and respect in a way that has influenced the posts on this bb for the better. You definitely deserve the credit for that.
Re: SEE – I like the look of it and would probably invest if I had some spare cash. I know jolly is a big fan of that share too, and he really does know what he’s doing so well done for spotting it yourself!
Re: SNTY and CFHL, I’ll give those a look later today.
You’re SINC sank story made me chuckle! I wish Mobile Streams had a better ticker so that I could make a similar play on words with it better than I missed the mark with MOS!
Re: MOS, that’s kind of you to say that MOS’s fall was unforeseeable but actually the devaluation of the peso was no secret. No one spotted it (not on the bb, el1te’s articles didn’t, institutional investor missed it, etc) but the information was out there for us to consume and yet I missed it.
My confidence was shaken from the experience but I’ve learnt from it. MOS will be okay, it will recover because all the huge strengths it had before are still there – even if the investor communications are so poor that they seem hidden. It’s just going to take time.
Hope you had a great weekend,
Dan
